A Perfect Saturday

A Perfect Saturday

Yesterday was a nice relaxing Saturday. Th sun came out for the first time in a week, and even though it was a little humid from the days and days (and days) of rain, the weather was great for all kinds of outdoorsiness.

My daughter had a soccer game in the morning, which allowed us all to have some time outside in the fresh air and sunshine. After the game, we swung by our favorite barbeque joint for lunch. Then we headed back home.

I had planned to work on the closet this weekend, but our garbage can is full of closet debris already. So I decided not to generate any more until the garbage gets picked up this week. This means that I had a whole day with nothing planned. Oh, sure, I could have tackled some decluttering, or one of the 42 billion other projects that I have going on. But instead I decided to relax, to just relax.

I went upstairs and opened all the windows. The sun was shining and a warm breeze was blowing. I could hear the music of birds singing, joined by a chorus of lawnmowers, and the smell of cut grass. I got my headphones and lay on the bed listening to one of my favorite episodes of my favorite podcast, Phedippidations. When the podcast ended, I stretched out and took a nap. My kitty Fifi hopped up on the bed and curled up next to me.

When I woke up a couple of hours later, after a lovely nap, Fifi was sound asleep with one of her paws draped over my leg. I tried to get up without waking her, but she woke up and looked at me with a sweet little sleepy face.

After I got up, she stretched out on the bed to enjoy a little longer nap.

I went downstairs and had a snack, then I decided to go outside and clear the garden beds so that I could get our veggies planted. It only took about 45 minutes to clear the beds. Steve came out to mow before I finished, and he hauled the garden soil that we bought around to the back of the house for me. It only took me about 30 minutes to get the soil into the beds, get it all smoothed out, and get our plants and seeds planted in the beds.

And of course, I prepared Simon’s flower bed as well, and sowed it with seeds for zinnias, sunflowers, cosmos, poppies, and catnip. The bed was beautiful last year! It’s fun to just throw seeds in and see what comes up.

Before I finished, it began to rain a little bit. A storm was moving through the area, north of us, and the weather had that pre-storm feeling, windy and electric. As I was putting away the tools, my daughter came home, and I took her on a tour of the freshly-planted garden. She is especially excited about the cucumbers, which we plant every year, and the green and yellow peppers, new additions this year. We will also have jalapenos, tomatoes, zucchini, spinach, and carrots.

After a shower, we all settled down to watch a movie. Fifi came down and stretched out on my lap, so that she could watch too! It was a relaxing end to a nice, relaxing day.

This morning, I awoke to the sound of rain. Nature took care of thoroughly watering my new gardens for me!
